The Dodge Ram, a product manufactured by the Chrysler Group LLC, is a full-size pickup truck.
Since late 2010, it has been sold under the Ram Trucks brand. In the United States of America and Canada, it is known as the Ram.
Previously, Ram was part of the Dodge lineup of light trucks. Initially, the word “Ram” was first used in 1981 on the redesigned Ram and Power Ram following the retiring of the Dodge D Series pickup trucks.
The truck is named for the Ram hood ornament that first adorned Dodge cars in the 1930s. The Ram Truck is in its fourth generation as of the 2009 model year.
The Ram is currently built at the Saltillo Truck Assembly in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico and at the Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan, United States.
Dodge Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine’s Truck of the Year three times: the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third-generation Ram Heavy Duty won the award in 2003 and the fourth-generation Dodge Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010.
The first-generation Ram trucks came to limelight in 1981. Dodge kept the previous generation’s model designations: “D” or Ram meant two-wheel drive while the “W” or Power Ram meant four-wheel drive.
1994–2002 (BR/BE): For 1994, the Ram line was redesigned. On the basis of the design concepts by chief designer Phillip E. Payne, plus the extensive customer research that revealed that full-sized pickup buyers were appealed by the strong exterior design that suggested the “look of a big rig truck, it was given the exterior styling.
The third-generation Ram debuted in 2002 with a major update including an all new frame, suspension, etc. Moreover, it also included a larger grille.
In 2006, it was given a face-lift, and it became an updated version of the previous generation. One notable addition was the “Mega Cab”, which had a 6.5-foot (2 m) cargo box and 22 inches (560 mm) of extra cab space.
The facelift also redesigned the headlamps and allowed seating for six with rear recliners. At the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the fourth generation Dodge Ram was introduced.
In 2011, several versions of the Ram Pick Up were introduced to the market, but the most popular is the Dodge Ram 1500. This Pick Up comes with 3 different engines: a 3.7-liter V6 (215 horsepower), a 4.7-liter V8 (310 hp) and a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 (390 hp). It has both manual and automatic transmission systems. The interesting thing about this truck is its hybrid technology. The engine can run on regular unleaded fuel, and also on E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline). This allows you to take advantage of cleaner-burning E85 alternative fuel wherever it’s available.
