Project Description

The Chevrolet Equinox is a mid-size crossover SUV from Chevrolet based on GM’s Theta platform, manufactured at CAMI Automotive (formerly a GM/Suzuki joint venture, now wholly owned by GM) plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, and introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year. The Equinox is the first crossover SUV from Chevrolet, marketed by GM as a compact SUV. Riding on GM’s Theta platform, the Equinox is mechanically similar to the GMC Terrain, Saturn Vue, Pontiac Torrent, and the 2007 Suzuki XL7. Front-wheel drive is standard, with optional all-wheel drive. The Equinox is not designed for serious off-road like the truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Trailblazer. For the 2006 model year, GM updated the Equinox for the first time, as GM badges were added on the front doors.

Previous models

The second generation Equinox was announced by GM on December 21, 2008, and debuted at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 2010 Equinox went on sale in June 2009. It is built on a stiffened version of the same “Theta” platform used in the previous model. The 2010 Equinox has a pair of new gasoline direct injection engines, with better fuel economy claimed by GM. Earlier 2010 models had the GM badges, but were later deleted. The new 2.4-liter straight-4 engine made in the US (Tonawanda, NY & Spring Hill, Tn.), produces 182 hp (136 kW) and 172 lb·ft (233 N·m) torque, and achieves up to 22 mpg (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg) (9.35 km/L)  in the city, 32 mpg (7.4 L/100 km; 38 mpg) (13.6 km/L) on the highway.

Optional is a 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 264 hp (197 kW) and 214 lb·ft (290 N·m) torque, with fuel economy at 17 mpg (7.2 km/l) in the city, 25 mpg (11 km/l) on the highway.

Both power trains come with six-speed automatics and optional all-wheel-drive systems (front-wheel-drive is standard). The Marketing for the Chevrolet Equinox resumed in Mexico during late November 2009, for the 2010 model year after one year of absence.

Current model

The latest model of the Chevrolet Equinox is the one introduced in 2011. For this model, only one engine is available, and it’s a 2.4 Liter gasoline engine, with 6-speed automatic transmission that produces a horse power of 182@6700 rpm. This models mileage is 22 mpg in cities, and 32 mpg on highways. From the safety features, this car has, Airbag, Traction control system, StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System, Tire Pressure Monitor, 4- Wheel ABS, Remote Keyless entry. Bluetooth connectivity, AM/FM radio, CD/MP3 player, Vehicle Anti-Theft System, Premium Sound System, Entertainment System, are only few of the features that make the car’s usage a classy driving experience.
